Club of Cambodian Journalists Hold Meeting to Discuss Establishment of Press Council

PHNOM PENH: A press release issued by the Board of Directors of the Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ) on Friday, 10 February 2023, stated that a meeting will be held to review and discuss the establishment of the Press Council of Cambodia. This council will be important in improving the journalism profession and orienting punishments for bad practice, especially in the current climate of journalism in Cambodia.

The CCJ's Board of Directors has decided to set up a commission to study and research the ethics followed by other ASEAN countries in order to better complement the ethics of the CCJ and improve them in line with evolutions in digital technology.

In order to continue this work smoothly and effectively, the Board of Directors will also set up another committee, which will have a diverse composition of relevant institutions and experts, including legal experts, to study this matter in depth before proceeding to form the Press Ethics Council.

In addition, the CCJ will establish a series of forums and discussions for the first time in early April, with a plan to begin by engaging more than 500 members from 172 Institutions to disseminate journalistic ethics and promote ethical practice with high responsibility.

The CCJ's review and discussion meeting was held in accordance with the joint statement of the 19th Editorial Forum of the Cambodian Press and the recommendations of the Minister of Information, Khieu Kanharith.
